Who we are

Friendly and relaxed

The Central Park Toastmasters Club first started in July 1991. During that year, some of Auckland’s most experienced Toastmasters ran a series of demonstration meetings in the Central Park office complex in Penrose, Auckland. This culminated in the formation of a new club based in the Central Park office, which has since relocated to the Danish House in Penrose.

Interest grew as the benefits of Toastmasters was promoted and shared with business owners, HR managers, and sales managers; and soon people from the Central Park business centre and surrounding districts started joining.

Since then, the club has continued to grow from strength to strength, with some members having been associated with the club for over ten years. Through the development of communication and leadership skills, members are able to enrich their personal lives, improve job performance and career prospects. We help our members achieve this by creating a friendly and relaxed environment whereby we can support and learn from each other while having fun along the way

What to expect
from your first meeting

As a guest, you can just sit back and enjoy

What is most important at Central Park Toastmasters, is that our guests feel welcomed and have the opportunity to engage and interact with our members to see how we operate as a club. We know our guests (and our members) will all have their own objectives in joining and building their speaking capability so we’re here to show you how our meetings are structured, where you’d participate in the future. We’ve included a couple of examples below which outline three of the main speaking areas within Toastmasters so you get an initial idea on what to expect. Most importantly, there is no pressure nor expectation to speak as a guest, and you’re welcome to come along several times to check it out.

The Main event

Prepared Speeches

Delivering prepared speeches allows you to gain valuable experience and get “stage time.” At the same time, the audience can be informed, inspired and often entertained. Come and share your ideas, opinions, stories or practice for that wedding, workplace presentation or simply build your self-confidence.

Adlibbing at it’s best

Impromptu Speeches

Impromptu Speaking is creating speeches or answer questions “off the cuff” without time to prepare. These are great sessions where we often have a lot of fun in being creative on our answers as you get the freedom to say whatever springs to mind in the moment. Often humorous, Toastmasters’ Table Topics teaches members to think on their feet and learn how to stay calm and think while communicating clearly and confidently.

If you are up to it, you may volunteer to join in.

Constant Growth

Encouraging Evaluations

All speaking and leadership roles receive an evaluation. This is an opportunity to learn from others’ experience and discover blind spots as well as acknowledge your strengths and get tips on how to improve. Giving and receiving feedback is a valuable skill, with many practical uses at home, sport or at work.
